The MSD Eagles Marching Band Heads To NY For Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Marching Band (Eagle Regiment), was selected to perform in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, representing the state of Florida.

This will mark the first Parade appearance by the band.

The Eagle Regiment will join the Parade to the call of “Let’s Have a Parade,” the iconic phrase that has signaled the start of every Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since 1924.

But the honor doesn't come cheap.

As part of the announcement, the Macy’s team presented Eagle Regiment with a $10,000 fundraising kickoff. The band was able to raise the funds needed for their Parade appearance through rehearsals and creative fundraising events.

Steve Rivero and his son, Robbie, lead the Eagles Regiment with 162 students, which comes out to $291,000 in costs for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, just for the students to go. Steve adds, newly acquired instruments amounts to about $200,000 more. It's not easy. It takes a village, especially when there are students and their parents trying to make ends meet to participate.
