Florida News That Impact You – May 5th, 2021

Florida’s coronavirus trend improved for a 13th consecutive day. On Tuesday, 3,682 new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health. Florida’s weekly trend for cases has dropped below 4,600 and is now the lowest since March 22nd. 

In more COVID news, nearly 9 million Floridians have now been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes over 6.4 million who’ve now completed a vaccine series. New vaccinations are running at about half of where they were three weeks ago as demand has continued to wane. 

And, Former Governor and current Congressman Charlie Crist made his bid for Governor official on Tuesday. The one-time Republican turned Democrat ran unsuccessfully for governor against Rick Scott in 2014.

Governor DeSantis has set the dates for the special election to replace the late Alcee Hastings in Congress. DeSantis announced the primary election will be held on November 2nd, with the general election to take place on January 11th, 2022.
