FBI Warns Floridians Of Blackmail Scam Involving Adultery

The FBI’s Jacksonville Division has issued a warning regarding a blackmail scam that scares Floridians into sending money.

A news release by the FBI says the scam begins with an anonymous letter to residents, claiming they have evidence of the recipient's adulterous acts.

The scammer then threatens to reveal the information to the recipient’s spouse, family and friends, according to the release.

The scammer uses the threat to demand payments in exchange for secrecy.

FBI Ocala has reportedly received several reports of this blackmail scam, as well.
