Suicide Hotline Calls Are Soaring To New Numbers, Report Says

As the suicide rate climbs throughout the United States, twice as many Americans are making calls to suicide hotlines.

Calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline doubled form 2014 to 2017.

The lifeline answered more than two-million calls last year, up from a million just three years earlier.

More than one and-a-half million calls came in during 2015 and again in 2016.

Lifeline officials say the recent high-profile suicides of celebrities Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain have raised public attention and have led to more calls.
