Video: Gov. Scott Formally Announces Run For Senate

Florida's Republican Gov. Rick Scott will run for Senate, aiming to unseat current Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

Scott formally made the big announcement regarding his intended political future in Orlando Monday morning.

"This is going to be a lot of fun," Gov. Scott said on Facebook Live. "We're going to do the exact same thing we've done... we're going to make sure that Washington works for us.

“Washington is full of old thinking. Washington is tired. And the truth is, both political parties share some of the blame. They’ve tried a lot of things – it just didn’t work. But I will not accept the idea that we can’t change Washington.”

Gov. Scott hinted toward a possible run right after President Donald Trump was elected. Trump has already supported a run by Scott.

Democrats have been anticipating the move for months and have ramped up their criticism, noting that Scott had been forced out as chief executive of Columbia/HCA amid a federal fraud investigation.

Although Scott was never charged with any wrongdoing, the health care conglomerate paid a then-record $1.7 billion fine for Medicare fraud.

Scott is a multi-millionaire who never ran for office before he ran for governor in 2010. He's leaving that office due to term limits.

He rode into office as part of the tea party movement and called for massive budget and tax cuts. But he was forced to scale back his plans amid opposition from the GOP-controlled Legislature.

He also changed his hard line positions on immigration.
