FIU Students Hold Vigil For Victims Of Bridge Collapse

A student-led vigil is being held at Florida International University to remember the victims of last week's bridge collapse.

FIU's Student Government Association says Wednesday morning's vigil is a way to honor the six people who lost their lives after the pedestrian bridge connecting the campus to the city of Sweetwater crumbled onto Southwest Eighth Street.

In total, six individuals were killed, and many more were transported to the hospital with injuries. One of the fatal victims was an FIU student.

After the vigil, participants are expected to walk to a makeshift memorial site near Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 107th Avenue to lay flowers and other items.

The vigil begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
