Docotors Earn More $$ When They Prescribe Opioids, Analysis Suggests

Well, this may be one of the reasons we're struggling with an opioid epidemic throughout the country -- Doctors earn more money for prescribing opioids.

A CNN analysis found that doctors received six figures from drug manufacturers for writing out more drug prescriptions in 2014 and 2015.

Those in the top five percent for opioid prescription volume received twice as much money as other doctors, on average.  Ones in the top one percent received an average of four times as much.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America said drug companies support required training for doctors to learn the right treatment plan for a patient's level of pain.
