Miami Beach Man Accused of Rape Found With Stolen Weapons Cache

A Miami Beach man accused of raping a woman and holding her against her will was found with nearly two dozen guns and more than 1,000 rounds of ammo in his home.

Authorities said 38-year-old Jaime F. Gonzalez was arrested Monday on charges including sexual battery, false imprisonment, battery, grand theft, and possessing a short barrel shotgun.

Officers first responded to a report of a tenant acting irrationally at a multi-resident complex on Island Avenue.

According to an arrest report, a female victim told officers Gonzalez attacked her and made threats to kill her and many other people. The victim allegedly tried to leave the apartment on several occasions but was unable to get away from the suspect.

The victim also said she had been raped by Gonzalez several days earlier, police said.

Police said Gonzalez was acting strangely when officers arrived and threatened them as well.

Officers searched Gonzalez's home and found a cache of weapons, including:

  • 6 rifles
  • 3 shotguns
  • 11 pistols
  • 1,000+ rounds of ammunition

Police later determined that one of the pistols had been stolen and one of the shotguns had an illegal short barrel, officials said.

The ATF and FBI were called in to assist in the investigation.

Gonzalez was later booked into jail where he was being held on $44,000 bond, records showed.
