FL Senate To Meet On Saturday For Gun Legislation Session

The Florida Senate will meet Saturday for a session on gun safety legislation.

Senate President Joe Negron sent a memo out Friday morning informing Senators of the rare schedule change.

"For your planning purposes, the Senate will convene on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for the purpose of hearing Senate Bill 7026,” the memo read, in part.

The bill is entitled "The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act."

Both chambers, the full House and Senate, had planned on starting debate Friday. The House was first to postpone the item midweek. The Senate followed suit Friday morning.

Lawmakers from both parties are trying to come to terms on the measure. The plan is for the Senate to vote on the item Monday. If it passes, the measure heads to the full House for consideration.

Lawmakers must move on the item by the end of session, next Friday.
