Toddler Left In Hot Car While Woman Shops For Pizza At Walmart

A woman is charged with child neglect after she claims she forgot her toddler was in a car when she left the child to shop at a Port St. Lucie Walmart Thursday.

Authorities say 29-year-old Yessina Torres picked up the 23-month-old boy at a daycare center in Stuart, then stopped at a Walmart on Gatlin Boulevard for a pizza and laundry detergent.

Torres was in the store for nearly 25 minutes while the child remained in the car.

A passer-by allegedly discovered the child crying and took him from the unlocked vehicle, place him in her car to cool off and called the police.

Police said the toddler's parents, who were called to the scene, said Torres picks the child up every day from daycare.

Torres was also driving the child in the car without a car seat. She was arrested on scene.
