Ahead of next week's spring break for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Mothers Against Drunk Driving or MADD is urging teens to stay away from alcohol and drugs.
MADD is teaming up with The Miami Coalition and the State Attorney's Office for the BTRU2U Prevention Campaign.
Helen Witty of MADD South Florida, says alcohol is the number one killer of young people.
"So often parents think it's going to be heroin or cocaine or it's going to be molly. What happens is they think it's harmless, I'll just give them a little bit of alcohol at home and that normalizes everything, it gives them permission. Kids that are given alcohol at home drink more frequently and in larger amounts outside of the home," said Witty.

MADD is also focusing on prevention efforts throughout April with PowerTalk 21. It highlights the importance of the 21 age drinking law and how family conversations about alcohol save lives.
