More and More People are Moving to Florida

Things are getting a little more crowded here in Florida...in some spots, a lot more crowded.

Three metro areas in Florida were among the nation's ten biggest gainers in the number of people moving there last year, and another three Florida metro areas were in the top ten for overall growth rates.

The U.S. Census Bureau released it's annual population estimates which shows the Tampa area had the nation's fourth highest population gain from people moving there, adding more than 58,000 residents through migration.

South Florida had the nation's seventh highest gain from migration, adding about 48,000 residents who moved there, just ahead of the Orlando area which added nearly 47,000 residents through migration.

The Villages community northwest of Orlando had the nation's highest overall growth rate last year at 4.3%, marking the fourth year in a row that it held the high mark. Fort Myers had the fifth highest population rate jump at 3.1% and Punta Gorda's 3% rate hike placed it the top ten metro areas as well.

Major northern cities saw the most people leaving town, with Chicago, Detroit and Baltimore tallying the biggest population decreases for the period of July 2015 to July 2016.
