Construction Worker Hacked to Death by Coworker

A Deerfield Beach construction worker is dead after being hacked to death by a crowbar-wielding coworker.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal attack involving two construction workers in Deerfield Beach Wednesday.

They have arrested 32-year-old Jonathan Schuler for premeditated murder, accusing him of attacking and killing Arcenio Alvarez with a crowbar. Just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Schuler allegedly struck Alvarez twice over the head and splitting his head open.

Onlooking construction workers then reportedly chased Schuler with crowbars and an ax, and subdued him until authorities arrived on the scene.

The men were hired as day workers at a construction site. Authorities are trying to figure out what provoked the attack and if the two men even knew each other before yesterday, since it was the suspects first day on the job.
