President Donald Trump will make his first speech to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night.
Trump is expected to focus his address on early progress made on campaign promises, especially: a proposed budget, a modified health care plan, immigration policy, and a new tax reform package. Changes are anticipated to be rolled out over the course of the next two months.
The President previewed his budget plan last week, stating that it will focus on spending cuts to reduce the national debt. He also touched upon a health care development that would replace the Affordable Care Act, and the new tax reform strategy that he campaigned prior to his election.
Special guests for Tuesday night's speech include family members of victims killed by illegal immigrants. President Trump is expected to touch upon securing the southern border as he outlines goals for his administration. The White House says two of the guests will be widows of Sacramento law enforcement officers.
The suspect awaiting trial for the officers' murders has been deported twice from the U.S. Another guest is the father of a 17-year-old who was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in 2008.
The first address to Congress gives President Trump a welcome opportunity to refocus his administration on core economic issues that helped him get elected. The speech to a joint session of Congress will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 9 p.m.
